String Atelier lets you turn a favorite photo into a personalized string art portrait. The kit contains everything you need, and the app converts your photo into step-by-step instructions — so you don’t need to know how it’s done. The result is a personalized portrait that doubles as wall art — for yourself or as a gift 🤍
Yes. You don’t draw or improvise. You tie the string to the first nail the app shows you, wrap it around the next nail, and so on, until the final step where you tie a knot. The app handles the artistic part — you just follow along. Most of our customers had never made a portrait like this before.
Yes. The steps are mathematically calculated, so when the string passes through the correct sequence, the image always comes out as intended. If you’d like to see how your photo will look as a portrait before ordering, send us your photo and we’ll send you a preview.
Most people finish a portrait in 6–8 hours. You can take breaks whenever you want — the app saves your progress. Many customers complete it over 2–3 evenings.
The kit includes 1 wooden board (50×50 cm). One kit makes 1 complete portrait, but the accessories are reusable. After your first portrait, you’ll have enough string and app codes left for 2 more portraits — so if you want to make a second or third, you only need an additional board.
Yes — photo choice matters a lot for the final result. For the best outcome, we recommend a photo with:
- High quality — sharp, no blur
- Good lighting — natural daylight works best
- Clear contrast — distinct features and details
The clearer the photo, the more detailed and accurate the portrait.
The app has an option to create your own style with custom settings. The parameters allow for endless combinations, so every image can look as close to your preferences as possible.
The kit uses high-quality nylon thread with strong elasticity, so breaking is unlikely. If it does happen, just tie the two ends together and keep going.
The app shows a live preview of how the portrait should look after each new line, so you can check in real time that yours matches. If you’re not sure where you are, you can use the app’s search function. The kit includes more details on how to use it.
